Living on a ranch doesn’t exactly lend itself to close-by neighbors. Jeremy’s grandparents tell some great stories about riding all day to get to their neighbor’s place when they were first married and
ranching in New Mexico. It’s not quite that far here, but suffice to say we don’t see them everyday. To help promote a sense of community and keep in touch with what’s going on around the neighborhood (although that consists of about a 30 mile radius) there is a group formed out of the people living in the area called the Coldwater Community. It’s named after the Coldwater Creek (longtime dry of course), which meanders through our ranch, and those that are involved in the group either live on the creek or close by.
The first Saturday evening of every month we gather, eat and visit. Even though we are, by far, the youngest members, we look forward to seeing everyone and getting updated on what’s going on. Somewhat strangely, I think, the women sit on one side of the room and the men on the other. I guess that’s a testament to the fact that ranch couples see enough of each other all week and look forward to a chance to visit with somebody else.

Sorry, didn't get any pictures at community supper. These pictures are of the old place in New Mexico. Now that's big country. Send your comments to me at sara.gugelmeyer@gmail.com or befriend me on Facebook.
